How to Conquer Your Fears

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by fear? to the point that it hindered you from doing something you really wanted to do? Believe it or not, this is a common problem faced by many people every single day. you are giving fear the power to control over your life!

It is normal to feel “the fear”, when we are faced with a threat. But if you allow it to control you for long enough, it can eventually erode your quality of life and keep you locked in the emotional prison of inactivity.
What many people fail to realize is that fear is nothing more than a timely response. It is a natural reaction to a frightening or unfamiliar situation. While it is usually automated, there are some things you can do to overcome it.
1. Check your expectations
One of the reasons people fear is that they expect the worst. They worry obsessively about what ‘could’ go wrong, They constantly ask ‘What if’ and ‘if only’ questions. the prevalence of negative expectations. Do you usually find yourself expecting the worst in every situation? Do you worry obsessively about what could go wrong in the future? rather than focusing on your strengths and abilities in the present?
If you make a little conscious effort to expect the best, seeing the positive side of each situation you come across and keep reminding yourself that you can handle more than you often think of, you will find yourself with much less fear to deal with. Even if feelings of fear do manage to creep into your consciousness, you still will be able to keep them in perspective and balance them against the underlying sense of confidence.
2. Disregard your fears
Fear and worry are very closely related, Experts will tell you that the majority of things you fear will never come to pass anyway. While this may be true, it sure doesn’t feel that way when fear has a chokehold on you! However, Look a little more closely at your fears when they arise, you may be able to dismiss at least a few.

3. Face your Fear
When you remember that fear is simply a feeling, it loses much of its power.
It cannot harm you and except in truly threatening situations you can choose to ignore it and move forward anyway.
Do what you fear. Your fear and anxiety might increase a little when you think about facing it. But once you’ve faced it, you will more than likely to think – it wasn’t near as bad as you thought it would be.

4. Share your Fear
All fears, no matter how big or small, are worse when we face them alone.
Facing your fear is a three step process:
- Make a commitment to face your fear
- Visualize yourself facing your fear while remaining calm and confident
- Fear is simply a feeling. You have control over your feelings. Fear in itself can not harm you.
Choose to ignore it and move forward except in truly threatening situations for personal safety.
It is important to note that some types of fears are healthy and some situations should be avoided for your own personal safety. There is no point for throwing yourself into a highly threatening situation. However, if the threat is more mental than physical, actually doing the thing you are afraid of can be the best therapy of all.
