What to do when your windows Xp won’t boot

Here is a few things you can do to overcome the problem of a Windows XP System doesn’t boot up, you got a few options to make to sort this out, pick whichever works for you preferably in same order:

1. Safe mode :  turn your Computer on, while it’s loading keep pressing [F8] key repeatedly, then choose “Safe Mode”. and from there you can uninstall, fix, , Browse, scan your hard drive (basically C:\ partition) for suspected files with virus infections.

2.  Last Known Good Configuration : same above procedure, but instead of safe mode, choose “Last Known Good Configuration”.

remember you have only one shot to revive your windows OS with this option, if it fails then the automatic backup copy that windows created before is corrupted too.

3. Recovery Console : you can use “Recovery Console” from within Windows XP installation CD, restart, insert it into CD-Rom Drive, let it boat as if it’s starting a new installation then on the blue screen that appears press R to start the Recovery. and you can handle it from there, it might take an hour or so depends on your Computer speed.

4. Disable automatic restart : while loading, press F8, choose “Disable automatic restart” which will let windows next time it reboots to stop and display the exact error message instead of being stuck in the middle of the boot process, which will help you diagnose the exact problem and let you act upon it.

5.  Using alternative ways to boot-up : if all the above failed, you still can use start-up XP floppy disk, bootable flash drive, CD, another hard drive to be able to access your windows xp system files and do repairs or reformat, re-installs..etc

6. System Restore : If your System ever booted successfuly in safe mode after any of those steps above,  click start button>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>then select ‘System Restore’. it will let you restore your windows XP to an earlier date, choose a restore point and let it continue.

Tip: Try to remember the last thing you were doing on your Computer before your system fails to boot up again, usually it’s a new software program, utility..new hardware you setup on the system which caused problems. remove any new hardware or software installations and repeat the procedures again.

For The Safety Of Your Laptop Batteries

The laptop battery is an indispensable organ of the laptop. The battery is what gives your laptop the convenience of being portable. These batteries can be recharged over and over again.

Laptop batteries should be charged only when they fall below 80% in its capacity. These are usually manufactured for a long lifetime and can be used at least for 500 to 1200 cycles. The use of the laptop batteries can be optimized by handling them carefully and with caution. These batteries should be conditioned on a regular basis. and that should be at least once in a month. While charging the battery, the laptop should be turned off when possible. If kept on, the batteries won’t acquire the required charging power. Also the metal connectors that connect the battery to the laptop should be cleaned. Any dust or moisture in this area can damage the battery.

When you wish to see a movie or listen to music on your laptop, it is better to write the CD or DVD onto your had disc. Doing this will not require as much power as when you just play the CD or DVD on the laptop. In turn, this will help extend the overall life of the battery. A few cautions like these can help the battery to last a long time.

The performance of the battery is determined by its weight, cycle period and rate of discharge. There are three types of batteries available, Some are costly while others in comparison are quite reasonable. These batteries will have a long life if properly stored and used. Hotter temperatures will have an affect on the battery as opposed to keeping the battery at room temperature. However, the terms for storage and usage of the battery vary from one brand to another. The newly manufactured batteries have certain rules for charging them. The new chargers are designed in such a way that they don’t need to be directed regarding the voltage, trickle charge, etc. Therefore, these batteries are said to be “smart batteries” which are smart enough to perform all their tasks own their own.

Theses batteries usually come with the laptop when purchased, and hardly ever need to be replaced because of damage. However, a reputed brand name should always be used to guarantee longer life and better performance. Also, most brand names will come with a warranty.

Laptop batteries can be purchased online also. However you should make sure that the site you are using will offer you quality products and service.

The Future Is Quantum

I like the word quantum. It’s a very future sounding word. Fantasy writer Terry Pratchett likes it too, and uses it in his novels to describe anything that can’t really be described or understood. Considering his stories take place on a world that drifts through space balanced on 4 giant elephants standing on a turtle, it’s a word he uses fairly often.

Quantum is like a bridge between what’s possible and what’s probable. It makes science fiction science fact, and it’s here. Well, almost here. The issue of quantum computing has been puzzling researchers for roughly 3 decades, and now it looks like we’re only a few short years away from buying them from our local tech stores.

What’s the big deal with quantum computers anyway? Well, they’re super-fast and super-efficient, making current PCs look like the monstrous machines that took up an entire room when they were first developed. According to Fred Chong, from the University to California, a quantum computer would be able to solve in mere months problems that would take a conventional computer millions of years.

The key to their “superness” is the fact that quantum bits or qubits are not bound by the conventions of time and space as we know them. Normal electrons spin either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Quantum electrons spin in both directions at once. This ability to transcend a single state of existence means that when they’re used in computing, quantum electrons transform conventional “bits” into qubits. Conventional bits can be either a 1 or a 0, but qubits can be both at the same time.

In quantum mechanical terms, the qubits exist in superposition, which leads to an inherent parallelism, which according to physicist David Deutsch allows quantum computers to work on a million computations at once. Current PCs can work on only one.

One of the most important benefits of quantum computers, aside from all the other “superness”, is that they’ll make silicon based microchips obsolete. This is a good thing because within about 4 years silicon chips will have evolved themselves out of existence, being too small to be of any practical use.

One of the ways in which they’ll negate silicon chips, and completely revolutionise the way computers are wired, is through the quantum property of teleportation. Using teleportation, information about one particle will be transmitted to another without using any wires at all. In Star Trek terms, information is beamed from one particle to another. The nice thing about quantum is that there will always be enough power to do this. No flailing about in outer space, panicking about another Klingon attack for these babies. You’re always good to go.

Simple quantum computers are already in existence, but they’re nowhere near achieving what they’re capable of. In 2007, a Canadian company, D-Wave, created a 16-qubit (the goal is at least 30 qubits) quantum computer that could solve sudoku puzzles. Other quantum computers can solve the riddle of Schrodinger’s cat (a cat in a box with poison, is it alive or dead? Until you open the box and have a look, it occupies both states, not unlike quantum electrons and qubits), considered one of the most important equations in quantum mechanics.

It may not seem like much to the man/woman on the street, but it’s enough to get quantum physicists out of their baths and running naked down the street with cries of “Eureka”.

How to Speed Up FireFox

These few steps will really speed up your browsing experience using Mozilla FireFox browser by over 200%.

1. Into FireFox address bar type “about:config” and hit enter. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining

network.http.proxy.pipelining

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining, It will make several requests at once, which dramatically speeds up page loading.

2. Edit those entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to 30 or less. This means FireFox will make 30 requests to the webpage server at once.

3. Finally right click on an empty area and select New > Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to ‘0′. This value is the amount of time the browser will wait before it acts on the information it recieves.

If you’re using a Broadband/DSL connection you will load pages MUCH faster now!

Windows XP Registry Cleaners - Top 7 Reasons To Download A Free Scan Now

Windows XP registry cleaners are a great way to keep your PC running at it’s best. If you want to discover the top 7 reasons for using your own Windows XP registry cleaner, then you need to read this article. We will discuss the reasons people use cleaners and how to eradicate the problems that a corrupt registry causes.

The top 7 reasons you should download and scan your PC registry are as follows:

Increase PC performance

Guess what? Your PC doesn’t become slow because of old age. The slowness that gradually creeps up on your PC is more to do with wear and tear on your Windows registry. Over time it becomes so clogged with information that your PC takes longer and longer to locate the information it needs. Cleaning your Windows registry will clear out all the deadwood and suddenly your PC will be running faster than ever.

Lower your blood pressure when your PC starts up

One of the most frustrating parts of a PC, whose registry needs cleaning, is the start up time required. If you have ever sat waiting, red-faced, for your PC to complete it’s startup ritual then you really need to look at giving it a spring clean.

Reduce hard disk load

When your PC loads applications or starts up does your hard disk sound like it is going to blow up? This can be the result of spending un-necessary processing time searching a corrupt registry. Clean it and give your hard disk (and your ears) a break.

Get rid of “blue screens of death”

Whilst less common in Windows XP than they were in Windows NT, these still occur on startup and during program execution, due to corruption issues. If you’re suffering through these blue screens of death, suffer no longer by sorting out your registry.

Eradicate PC hanging/freezing

One of the issues that used to frustrate me so much was application freezing for no apparent reason. Often this would happen whilst browsing the Internet or printing. Once again, with thousands of un-used, clogging registry entries your PC can sometimes be sent into endless loops.

Remove application conflicts

Your registry stores information about all the applications and program libraries (DLL’s) on your PC. When it becomes corrupt or clogged multiple versions of DLL’s begin hanging around which in the long term causes application conflicts and issues.

Save money

Need I say more? Quite simply, having a fast performing PC that doesn’t hit you with freezes or errors all the time is bound to save you money. Take a car for example. If you do not maintain it, eventually it is going to cost thousands to fix or require replacement. The same can be said for PC’s, except when people replace them it is often done un-necessarily.

To diagnose your Windows registry you can download and scan your registry for free using one of the many popular packages.

Phishing - What It Is And How To Avoid It

The Internet is large. It is too large in fact - making it incredibly easy for criminals to scam you and your fellow surfers out of your credit card numbers and personal information. All it takes is a computer and a power outlet and a scammer can start taking people’s money. This is one of the primary reasons why phishing has become such a prominent problem in recent years.

Phishing, simply put, is the process by which scammers send out fake emails and set up fake websites where they will ask you for personal and financially sensitive information. You likely receive these all the time. They will come to your Inbox in the form of a letter from your bank or a “privacy” notice from an online account. They will ask you to login from the email or confirm a detail by clicking on a link.

When you click on that link, you do not actually go to your bank’s website though. Instead, you are taken to a front, where the phisher has created a fake website designed to look exactly like your bank. When you log in to the fake website, the phisher records your login information, sends you to the real website and makes away with your bank account details - or any other online account you may have given your login information away for.

This can lead to your entire identity being stolen from you and used with ill intent to get fake loans, credit cards, or other things that will ruin your credit and your reputation and possibly take years to repair.

Avoiding Phishers

There are many things you can do to keep from being phished and having your personal information stolen. The most obvious and first thing you should do is to ignore any emails that arrive from your bank or any other personal institutions. No matter what you see in an email - whether it is logos, numbers, contact details, or HTML - you should ignore it. Businesses know the risks that are associated with online scam artists and will never send you confusing emails asking for your login or to confirm anything.

If you feel it still might be real, call your bank or the company from which it is supposedly from and confirm the information there. Never click on any links in the email either. If you want to check a “message” you supposedly got in your bank’s Inbox, directly log into your bank account by entering the URL manually and checking your Inbox.

Never supply too much personal information on a website. You should never need to give over a social security number or credit card number unless the security precautions are in place to protect them. Look for SSL protection and a padlock on the bottom of your browser to tell you the site is secure. In addition, many browsers are instituting new technology to tell you when a site is not legitimate.

By being vigilant and prepared for the worst, you can avoid most phishing attempts and feel safer while surfing online.
